My Broken Heart

This song reminds me where my focus should remain - even with my broken heart...

Sandy Hook Elementary

My heart breaks for the Sandy Hook community - please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
The Lord is near to those who are broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
-Psalm 34:18

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. -Matthew 5:4

Work Stations

In my classroom we work every morning and afternoon completing work stations.  I implement Debbie Diller style work stations in my classroom.  This is a word-work station.  They are rolling a dice, and coloring the corresponding word.

This is the ABC Alphabet Hunt - they pull a capital letter out of the jar and try to find the lowercase on the paper, if they find it they get to dab it!

Here students paint the chalkboard!  They are using the yellow list of sight words (second list).  They practice making the word just like the one on the card, and they say the sounds and blend the word as they paint.  This one has a magic 'e' - the e is silent, and throws magic dust on the 'i' making it a long 'i'!

This is a word-work/letter station, they are completing a picture dictionary activity.  Using the dictionary helps them to understand alphabetical order too!

These are marshmallows!  I used a permanent marker on them mixed up letters and words in a gallon ziploc bag.  They pulled one marshmallow out at a time, if they got the word or letter right they got to "shoot the marshmallow" into the bucket!  They loved this!

This is our classroom library.  They are using a reading tool while they are working at this work station.  The reading tool helps them to stay on track and point to sight words too.

Decorating a paper gingerbread house is fun, I cannot wait to see the smile she has after decorating a her real gingerbread house with frosting and candy!  This was a diecut from REMC.

Uh-Oh!!!  That is right!! Bernard is ALWAYS watching us, wherever we are at, he has his little eys on us, and can hear everything we do!

Looks like Bernard needed a chocolate fix!  Haha!

Turkey Time!

As you saw previously on my blog, there was newspaper coverage from Nicole Hamner Weiss at The Voice and Cadillac News!  Here is a "PRE" picture from our feast.  These are my little gobblers!

Every year I take time to complete a feast, if you haven't had a chance to look at my TPT store, I do have some great Thanksgiving themed packages on there!  Take a peek if you haven't!

Science

In Science we have been discussing what it means to dissolve!  I found this great experiment online, it is making S's float!  You simply take skittles, water, and a small cup.

Directions:
Place the skittle in a small cup of water with the "s" facing upward.
Watch and see what happens!  In about 30 seconds, the "s" will float to the top.
The reason why the "s" doesn't dissolve, is because it is printed with edible, non-dissolving ink!
I thought it was amazing - and so did my kids!  At the end of the experiment, they ate their skittle, and talked about how it tasted how it was supposed to without the candy coating.  Purple was grape flavor, after the purple dissolved it still tasted grape... Why?  Because the flavoring is inside the skittle, not on the candy coating!  :)

Halloween Wacky Wednesday

The boys have their hands in SLIME - cornstarch and water.
This was one of our Wacky Wednesday stations within our classroom.

He's spinning round and round to try and pin the nose on the Jack-O-Lantern.

The perfect pencil! I just loved his costume!

Here are my frightening friends, and pretty princesses!

I save my favorites for last, these are my boys!
Jonathan is 5 and a Zombie - Dad did an amazing job on make up and costume!  :)
Then there is Emmet, relaxing and having a french fry, he was a skeleton, but it was so cold you cannot see his costume, he is 10 months old.

Fire Prevention Month

October is Fire Prevention Month
We walked to our local Fire Station - Reed City Fire Department
where we were greeted by Firefighter Graham
He gave us a great lesson on fire saftey and then allowed us to have a tour through the station.

Apples

September is a month that is filled with many fun activities!
We had the opportunity to go to Anderson's & Girls Apple Orchard and it was a great field trip!
To conclude our Apple theme, we had a Fun Friday in September in our classroom.
Activities included, making Applesauce, Painting with Apples, Apple Necklaces, and Apple Tasting with Graphing.

We wrapped up our Fun Friday activities with Caramel Apple suckers!  Mmm! :)
